Paragon Park opens in Hull.
1905
Originally Atlantic Park when it opened in 1868, the renamed waterfront amusement park is operated by George Dodge. The Giant Coast is the tallest roller coaster in the world at the time (98 feet) and the park becomes a popular summer destination for Bostonians. Badly damaged by a fire in 1963, the park is rebuilt, but closes in 1985. Only the arcade building remains today. The roller coaster is subsequently moved to Six Flags America in Maryland. The 66-horse, two-chariot, Wurlitzer organ PTC Carousel, built in 1928, is purchased by the Friends of the Paragon Carousel in 1986, restored, and moved to Nantasket Avenue, where it continues to operate today.
